Youth Programs

Compton holds a rendezvous each June. If you haven't attended the event I strongly encourage it. A huge part of the rendezvous deals with the youth events. We offer a 3-D youth course along with four other courses that the adults can shoot. There are aerial events, novelty shoots and even a course in blood trailing, all for the youth. Each young person that attends receives a door prize along with a Compton Traditional Bowhunter tee shirt.

The future of our great sport depends on the youth of today. It is important that we pass on the history of archery along with the ethics, values and responsibilities that come with shooting and hunting with traditional equipment.

Compton Traditional Bowhunters  is extremely dedicated to getting our youth involved in all aspects of shooting a traditional bow. Our goal is to introduce them into a sport that will last them a lifetime.  Whether it is on an exciting hunt, a day at the 3-D course  or just stump shooting with friends or family it will be about the memories and passion that come with shooting the traditional way.

One of our programs that we are proud to offer is donating traditional bows, arrows, archery gloves and arm guards to youth organizations, churches and schools that wish to teach our youth about shooting traditional bows. Compton has donated to groups all across the United Stated and Canada.

Many youth of today have not had the opportunity to experience the outdoors and what nature has to offer. Getting a child involved in traditional archery could be the first step in helping them to enjoy the outdoors. I encourage you to be a mentor. You will not regret it.

If you would like to volunteer to help with our Youth Program activities, or if you would like to submit a request to us for your own program, please email me today at Youth@comptontraditionalbowhunters.com.

Youth hunters will use longbows and recurves to hunt whitetail deer and turkey on the private Plum Creek Ranch in North Central Nebraska. Youth must be 12 to 17 years old and able to accurately shoot a 35# longbow or recurve. All applications will be reviewed and youth selection will be at the sole discretion of the Compton Board. A legal guardian will be required to sign a liability release form and be present in the camp, but will not hunt. We do ask legal guardians to help around camp. Compton will provide experienced mentors who will not hunt, but will accompany and advise the youth hunter. Considerable time, effort, passion and funds are expended to provide this hunt opportunity. We are looking for youth who are committed to go on this hunt. Youth who are selected for this hunt are expected to attend and give this hunt priority over other activities that may conflict.

The hunt is planned for October 2—5, 2025. Participants are required to furnish their own transportation to and from Plum Creek Ranch. All participants will meet in Ainsworth, Nebraska at 11 a.m. Central time on October 3rd. From there, we will travel together to the Plum Creek Ranch. Thursday afternoon, we’ll have lunch, orientation and safety meeting followed by an evening hunt. Our final hunt will conclude at noon on Sunday. Hunters, parents, and mentors will stay in the cabin or tents provided. Compton will also provide food and reimburse the cost of licenses. Youth hunters and parents/legal guardians need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Youth hunters also need to bring appropriate hunting clothes and equipment. A maximum of 4 youth hunters will participate on this hunt.
